Weekend Getaways for Mother's Day

By Kimberly Graf. Published on May 10, 2018

Mother's Day is upon us! On May 13th, we gather to appreciate and enjoy our mothers' lessons and the sacrifices they've made to help us become the people we are today! Some people have dinners at home or take their mothers out to restaurants, shopping experiences, or spas. We're going to look at some of the locations you can take your mother if you just want to get away from it all on Mother's Day weekend!

California's Sonoma Valley

Wine country is one of the most romanticized destinations in America – and it's perfect for your mother on this special day! If she loves spas, flowers, and (of course) wines, there's no better place to take her! The two of you can stroll through rose gardens like the Russian River Rose Company in Healdsburg, California. Here are there about 665 different varieties of roses and other flowers that are sure to charm her. You can take as many pictures as you'd like in the fields of roses and well-manicured gardens!

If your mother is a gardener herself, they offer seedling plants of almost every variety of flower in the garden. She can plant it herself and watch it grow, and it's sure to remind her of this amazing weekend event! If gardening is not her thing (or yours), you can head down to brunch at one of the several wineries that are offering events on that day.

You can make reservations at the Fete de la Fleur at Chateau St. Jean in Sonoma for brunch. It's a relatively inexpensive party with music, local food, and wine tasting, all in the comfort and style of their Mediterranean gardens. Later in the day, head down into Sonoma itself and find half a dozen cafes offering Mother's Day dinner deals depending on what type of food the both of you are into! You could even spend some time finding a spa here that will pamper you both!

Sonoma Valley truly has it all for Mother's Day!

Chicago, Illinois

The Windy City offers some amazing things to do any weekend of the year! This Mother's Day, treat your mother to some of the things going on in the city!

Peninsula Chicago Mother

Chicago is home to many old and luxurious hotels! If you're coming from out of town (or just want a true getaway locally), make a reservation at the Peninsula hotel. They're holding a magnificent Mother's Day brunch event at their buffet and in-house restaurant, plus spa treatments to make your mother feel incredibly special!

There are also many unique shopping opportunities in this city if that's something you like to do together. The Shops at North Bridge is famous for its closed bridges that arc over the streets between shops! There are some high-end urban stores there that the two of you are sure to enjoy.

If neither of those appeal, Hamilton is playing at the CIBC Theatre during that weekend – if you hurry, you might be able to get a ticket to one of the newest, hottest musicals! The great thing about Chicago is that you're sure to find something to do for your mother on her special day. The options are endless!

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is the ultimate tourist town. You are sure to be able to find something to do over your weekend here, whether you're staying on Las Vegas boulevard or not! If you're going to spend a little more on a really fancy brunch, check out the Lakeside seafood restaurant. It's nestled inside the Wynn Las Vegas hotel, which is already a statement in the Vegas landscape. You can make reservations for their jazz-themed brunch event.

Another great thing to do with your mother is just spend some time walking the Strip. There are plenty of hotels that have outside displays and other attractions that cost nothing to see. The MGM Grand has a cast of tigers that you can stand and watch (and even walk through their environment). It's a pretty amazing thing to witness if you get there during one of their "play times". The Rainforest Café is in the building, so if you guys love animals, that's the place to go for dinner!

The Bellagio has a gorgeous water and light show in their giant fountain, so take up a spot on the street and watch it on the hour! They also have some beautiful gardens both inside and outside the hotel that you can walk through at no charge! Plan on being here after dark? Treasure Island (or TI, as it's called now) has a pirate ship in their harbor that sinks twice a night, with a show to go along with it. Live actors and free street side seats make this a thrilling experience!

Las Vegas Strip night

You can pay a small fare to ride the double-decker London-style buses up and down the Strip instead of walking it if you'd like. It's an experience that you're both sure to remember! Las Vegas also runs long on things to do for Mother's Day. Get creative with it!
